ReplyDeleteA1: I think we all use computational thinking at some point in our lives without realizing it. For instance, if you're trying to purchase a new car or a property, and knowing you're not quite ready to do that so for whatsoever that might be, the question always comes to mind about how can I make that impossible, who will be able to help you, and what kind of resources I'll be using to archive such goal?

ReplyDeleteI wanted to go back to school, but be able to work full time, so I decided to enroll for online classes. With online classes, I can work full time and access the class material from any location at anytime.
A2:
A person who will understand my vision and guide me down the right path. Someone who is considerate and willing to provide constructive criticism without diminishing my vision. Someone who is open to communication and interaction. Someone who recommends resources and opportunities.
A3:
When participating in a project, you learn during the process and understand how best to approach a problem for future references.
In school my teachers used to give students group assignments. We had to do research and solve the problems. In the process of doing the assignments, you learned what would bring success or failure. I believe project based learning does work to keep individuals engaged and helps memory retention.
A4:
In the presentation he identified that the smartphone on the market is not user friendly. There are issues with the buttons and user interface. They were able to solve these issues in their phone by utilizing interface designs influences from their computers.
The presentation was simple and straight to the point. He connected with the audience by using the technique of storytelling, and showed great passion for the product. He exuded confidence and knowledge of the products. With the use of visual aids, he kept the audience engaged.
response to A1- That's wonderful to hear! I'm in the same boat with working full time and going to school half-time. It's a big challenge working out the logistics. Stick to it and remember to explore all of your resources.

ReplyDeleteA2: I don't have one at the moment but if I did, it would have to be a sponsor and a coach.
ReplyDeleteA3: Most individuals learning by doing. The brain reacts better by seeing the actions in hands. It's a great method that has been working for decades. It's also the best way I learn things and remember them for a long time.
A4: Steve Jobs was very informative, funny, and very competitive in the presentation. The audience responded very well to his knowledge of technology
For A3, The first hand knowledge or the on ground training stays in memory for good. Especially with the subjects like IT better to learn in the devices than have a theoretical knowledge as the exposure with electronic devices helps in sharpening the skills needed.
DeleteA4
Steve Jobs looks confident in the knowledge while he is presenting the new device on the stage where the whole world is watching at the new device that has state of the art technology.
A1 resume- Mine is accessible which allows me to be versatile in my job hunting.
ReplyDeleteA2 Computational thinking- methodical process to tackle a challenge. It's used daily in order to tackle my everyday work and life problems. Helps move me pass the anxiety if i am able to pull something apart and tackle it one piece at a time.
A3 Mentorship- For me, a mentor is someone who can appreciate my non traditional path, recognize my talents and weaknesses, and help guide me by example and taking the time to talk to me.
A4 PBL- This describes my learning process. I'm a hands on learner who gleans valuable information from failures and challenges. It is greatly more effective than just reading about an issue as a solo means to learn.
A5 Innovation- Thanks for the flash back! I feel old now. What's memorable is his humor. The presentation was informative without being dry. Being a good speaker is inspiring and helps rally people to your cause. He was practically handing out the kool-aid.

Margo,
DeleteA2/Q2:I am just curious what technology you use in order to ensure your days run more smoothly? I use a lot of excel spreadsheets as well as some coding I get from my IT department to help me better utilize my time.
A3/Q3: Do you currently have any mentors? I agree that a mentor should not try to push you down the exact path they took rather give insight on the path they took in order to help you on the path you are currently taking!
A1: It seems like the computational thinking belong to smart machines; however, the human brain also is capable of using computational thinking which is little bit different and simple than machines. For example, if you are going to be late for your appointment, your brain starts using the elements of computational thinking to avoid it. First you divide your reasons why you are getting late. Second, you try to find the similarities among those problems so that you can solve many at a time. Third, you identify the important ones and focus them like take buses instead of subways. Fourth, you draw your imaginary design in your brain to not be late. When you have another appointment, your brain can use this design as instructions.
ReplyDeleteA2: I look for someone who can approach me with correct questions and critiques. Sometimes, we can’t find the answers for our questions. This might make us down or pessimistic. Then we are looking around to find the answers, but we don’t think on the questions. Maybe the questions that we ask to ourselves are wrong. That is why we can’t find the answers. To ask the correct questions is the one of the greatest features of a mentor for me.
A3: PBL is a method that you can see every step and understand on the projects you do. I have never changed my car’s oil in my life. When I came to US, my brother in law showed me how to change it. He let me change the oil and also my car’s brake pads. This was kind of project for me and it worked perfectly.
A4: The way how he introduced the iPhone with audience by using the graph and comparison with other brands. His confidence about his products and the jokes in the presentation were remarkable.

DeleteA1: Comment here: I have used computation thinking on everyday life specially at work. I was tasked to create a PowerShell to modify date and time of all user asset of storage list. this process was done manually with 1000 of assets by my co-worker. So I decided to automate the process by writing a PowerShell script which will change the date and time then I create a batch file to execute this process.
ReplyDeleteA2: Comment here: yes, I have look for a mentor in the field of learning LINUX but I was given answer that "I learn it on the jobs" which means this person didn’t want to help and share with me with his knowledge. I have succeeded to get a mentor in the field of SAN (Storage Area Network). This person was laid off same as me but he was able to get into a company where he had access to some equipment. So, every Saturday I went into his job where he shows me around and how he does stuffs. He gave me a lot of books to read which I used to practice for interview oh boy I failed couple times then I would return to him about those questions that company asked during those interviews and make sure I'm prepared the next wave of interviews.
A3: Comment here: Project base learning is an also an excellent way to teach anybody not only a problem but show someone a new trick. It is proper planning which require you to document al the steps which you can revisit at later time. I remember that I wanted to build POS into Raspberry Pi, so I decided to research on every free POS that can be install on raspberry pi and different type OS. As they said learning by doing which help me think and find different way to install different application and also command line.
A4: The most memorable presentation about Steve Jobs on the new iPhone was he showed that all other cellphones in the market at that was outdated. Those cellphones couldn’t make any changes on the fly because of hardware restriction which couldn’t add new function to this device. On the other hand, the new phone was base solely on software which can modified any moment. He also did some demonstration by making calls and played videos and musics.
A2: It seems like you had great opportunity to have a mentor. My question is how did you contact to your mentor at the first time and how did you find him? it is really difficult to find someone who can approach you exactly the way how you need to be approached. I am a math guy and I would love to learn more about data and some computer programing such as Python, SQL...
DeleteFor some strange reason the blog spot keeps having me log in over and over again and will not let me post my answers I have tried to submit the answers at least 20 times and it simply will not let me post a comment. I am emailing you to provide proof that I did do the homework and not making an excuse! I also did not see a video to watch for the resume so I did not answer that question as i also did not see very many comments answering that question as well. Tomorrow could we possibly figure out why it was so difficult to post a comment on blog spot? Thank you and i hope you had a great weekend and will see you tomorrow night!

Homework Answers to Questions
A1.I have used elements of computational thinking in my everyday life with decomposition. Everyday at work I take on tasks in which are very complex and have to figure how to break down each of these tasks into simpler more manageable tasks. Another element I have used in my everyday life is abstraction. Everyday I get emails about complaints and improvements. But some of these complaints are sometimes so far fetched and not capable of being done, that I filter these types of complaints out and focus on the core/key improvements that are important/practical.
A2.What characteristics one should look for is one that will be able to assist you in reaching goals you set for yourself. To further expand on this the mentor should have knowledge on whatever it is you are trying to accomplish. Also another trait a mentor should have is the ability to push you out of your comfort zone as well as being well ahead of you in your field, in which has the experience to push you out of your comfort zone without causing you to take risks with little benefit. One major characteristic I believe you should look for in a mentor is one who has been able to overcome obstacles and failure to reach to position they are in now. The best way to learn I believe is through success but also failure. When one was/is able to overcome failure they are able to gain invaluable knowledge in which they can instill in you and explain how to overcome these obstacles with personal experience.
A3.What makes project based learning so successful is the process leading up to answering the question will be remembered for years to come by revisiting the project story. It is so affective at engraving the tasks performed in our heads because it uses real world problems and we often remember these processes better as they can directly affect our lives. I have experienced project-based learning through accounting in school. It teaches you what works and what does not work when it comes to spending, how much you can spend without exhausting yourself. I benefit from this learning because it teaches you real world knowledge rather than cramming your brain with a bunch of information you will never use.
A4.What was most memorable about Steve Job’s presentation was explaining the use interface. Steve Job’s explained that the user interface was revolutionary in the ease of use. The interface was unlike any other phone, in which the keyboard did not have to be there when you didn't want to as well as combining now only an I-Pod, Phone as well as a breakthrough Internet application. The strengths in presenting to a audience like this is the use of the large screen he is able to describe as well as show the audience why the I-Phone was such a revolutionary device. Also when you present to a crowd of this size, he is able to combine comedic commentary in which leaves a good impression in which the crowd will tell their colleagues which will then cause a trickle affect in which the I-Phone will cause a trickle affect where the crowd will do a large amount of advertising for the company Apple.
Response A 2: I definitely agree, that a mentor should push you out of your comfort zone. At times we get too comfortable in certain situations and just need the extra push to achieve our goals.
DeleteLooks like it worked finally.
ReplyDeleteA1. I don’t have the resume yet. Cause I don’t have SSN, I cannot find any jobs.
ReplyDeleteA2. For example, if the teacher now says that a book is turned to Chapter 8, everyone will find the page number where Chapter 8 is located from the directory in front of the book, and then turn to it.
A3. The mentor is a person who knows me and can guide me. Stop me when I am bout to make mistakes, support me when I am in trouble. So, I can get a lot of benefits from the mentor.
A4. In my opinion, PBL is successful because it teaches students to challenge and break through. And it teaches students to learn for themselves. I never tried yet, because in China, the education is totally different, the education system of China is more focusing on grades.
A5. The most memorable part of Steve Jobs in this speech was when he introduced an iPod, a phone, and an Internet communicator as the same device.
I saw Jobs showing the audience all the technology that Apple Inc. used on the iPhone at the time
I am completely agreed with your A5 answer because at first everyone thought it was really 3 devices until he revealed it was really one device.
DeleteThat was the moment when it changed the way we communicate.
DeleteI do have digital resume but I never use it. The benefit of having a digital resume is that people can find it and look at it when applying to a job.
ReplyDeleteComputational Thinking
ReplyDeleteI have used computational thinking in my daily life , either it be at work or at home.It has made my work efficient and effective. it has helped in higher productivity and creativity. In mentor, I look for knowledgeable and wisdom. A person is wise when he/she is knowledgeable.
Mentorship
With the types of mentorship, the speaker described sponsor, guide and coach, I find sponsor to be vulnerable as they put their reputation at the front line. It energizes the person befitting from the mentorship.
Project Based Learning
The best thing about the project based learning is its effectiveness. It has long term impact in the learning process. Learning by doing gives the students an on ground training which is going to be in their memory for life in contrast to the traditional approach.
Innovation
Steve starts with the history and the improvements that have been achieved. He makes the case of technological evolution that have been successful to transform the human life from innnovation especially from technological advancement. He has been thorough while presenting his new break through device in the history of mankind.
what i look for in a mentor is someone that helps me overcome my fears of not being able to do certain things.Someone that is never afraid to have you as an equal.
ReplyDeleteA1: Elements of computational thinking that i use in my everyday life is pattern recognition in my math class. If I do not know the answer straight away then i can look at other similar problems and see a pattern or something similar that could help me solve a more difficult problem with more variables or more steps.
ReplyDeleteA2: What you can look for in a mentor is one figure out if this person is someone who can teach you or help you reach your goals. One example can maybe be a coach who helps you develop certain skills in a sport that can help you achieve the next level you were trying to reach. Another example is either motivating you to do better telling you right from wrong and what can help you get to the next level.
A3: Project based learning is effective for learning because it helps the student become more engaged in whatever they are supposed to be learning. Throwing them into a place where they have to work and figure it out for them self with some guidance. This makes the student more interested and want to learn more about it by them self. I have engaged in PBL before and I feel like it is better having guidance and learning more about why the thing we are working on is relevant is more beneficial for me
A4: the most memorable part for me is when he introduced that the iphone only had one button and then showing how this made all the other so called smart phones of the time obsolete. He would engage the crowd by making the occasional joke but also by introducing a bunch of new features that have never before been seen on a phone which made the audience more engaged

ReplyDeleteA1 Yes I have a digital version of my resume. A digital form resume is easy to access and update. At the same time is easy to be accessed online by companies interested in hiring.
ReplyDeleteA2 In solving math problems that were not straight forward but required an extra touch.
A3 A mentor is a person who inspires you to become a better version of yourself. A mentor can be a successful person in the field that you would like to pursue. But most importantly is that a mentorship is a relationship where understanding and ideas are exchanged and nurtured.
A4 The key element of project based learning is knowledge through experience. In other words you research, you get together with your team and share all the information, mold all the knowledge into a presentation and communicate it to a third party. I have worked in teams before for different class projects.
A5 The element of surprise and teasing the audience of what the limits of this new technology are. The way of comparing this new phone with whatever is in the market and showing what everyone else is lacking and what iphone has to make it unique. And also the passion of how all the pieces where put together the IOS10 system, UI, the software and hardware.
A1: I use computational thinking every time I swim. Ex: There’s an amount of distance that I need to swim at a certain amount of time, I usually divide the distance (yards) into small groups as well as the time (sec/min), so at the end of it I’ll have extra information regarding my activity more than just time and distance, such as speed and endurance (regarding the amount of time I took to complete the small groups of distances and the amount of time that I took to rest in between the groups)
ReplyDeleteA2: For me, a mentor is a person who I admire and maybe see myself as in the future (social or professional). I feel that everyone has different needs and goals, the good mentor will be the person who understands who you are, accepts you and the one who what’s to see you moving forward, what I look for in a mentor is his/her capacity to motivate, solve problems and to believe that I can reach my goals.
A3: The opportunity of learning from our own mistakes is the biggest advantage of Project-Based Learning. I have been involved in some projects that I think gave me a lot of problems solving skills and creativity, I feel that in this method you have to push yourself to make the project successful.
A4: The most memorable part for me was when Steven Jobs said that the 3 revolutionary tools were gonna be only one device, where you could listen to music, make calls and access the internet on. Thinking about it, nowadays the touch screens, internet, photos and music, all in one device is something considered “average” for us, we usually look for the BETTER, better pictures, better sounds, better connection, but in 2007 when an LG Prada was considered latest release with 256MB memory, the iPhone was something revolutionary.
Everything about the iPhone was an innovation and therefore we can call those innovations strong points of the product in the presentation.
A1. Computation thinking can be used to help us solve problems. Computational thinking involves taking that complex problem and breaking it down. However, before a problem can be tackled, the problem itself and the ways in which it could be solved need to be understood.
ReplyDeleteA 2.I can learn from many different people in many different ways. Keep on open to developing learning relationships with a diversity of colleagues. One reason to find a mentor is to gain additional knowledge of the business. This may mean learning about an unfamiliar function.
A 3.The focus on problem-solving and critical thinking is what makes project-based learning so effective and what makes Audacity graduates so successful, we can say Project-Based Learning integrates.
A 4. The Style is the way that the speaker delivers the material. Two different speaker will often be able to deliver the same, exact type of speech with two separate and distinctive styles. It will not only build your confidence, but also help you identify sources of risk. Do you have trouble accessing your Power Point.
A1: I have used to computational thinking every minute, because I have a very strange mind like it is thinking every second. If you have a like this mind, you acted with computational thinking already. But I usually use when I study and work. First I start an idea then I continue with analysis after that I follow to my steps. Actually this is algorithm so we can see our brain follow to way like computers, programs.
ReplyDeleteA2: First, I can look what did do this mentor in self-life? For example a mentor has successful academic career, I can see mentor to this person. But I think sometimes everything is not academic career like good farmer. Maybe a farmer doesn`t has academic career but s/he can be good mentor for someone about be strong or agriculture.
A3: I learned to this me after I watched video. I really like search somethings to step one step. It is Project Based Learning. I believe to if we continue to thinking about topic without go out from main things, we can solve problems or follow to way. Actually, I didin`t learn from anybody, life, homeworks , exams, classes and problems must taught to me.
A4: I think memorable part is present to new apps and compares. Actually I felt very strange when I watch to this video. Because it is like looking amazing, incredible and fantastic at that times. Those apps and technology and touching were really incredible things so I effected from that. And I can see he is really brave for their technology so it was milestone of phones, smart devices, designs and apps.
A1: basically I use computer to write school assignments, communication and research information. Research is my central element.
ReplyDeleteA2: I am looking for a person who has an interest for my growth, who is willing to guide me and tell me when I make mistakes, someone who gives me a constructive criticisms. Signs of not good mentor is someone who gives orders, telling me what to do, how to think. Someone who does not allow me to use my own discretion.
A3: I never been exposed in doing projects based on computer before it will be my first experience. In my community we did not have access to computers, by the time I got an opportunity to access it, I only learned about the basics of the computer. The key steps for me is to be able to identify the problem and communication in the team.
A4: The strengths that have noticed from Steve Jobs is the way he sells the product, he is well organized, outspoken and he knows what his customers want. He also has a sense of humor; the audience are not bored by his presentation jobs is taking them through the process making sure that they understand what they will purchase. The iPhone had a large touch screen (multi-touch) that you could use finger to touch it, with the thin sides.
A1: Yes! I have used a computational thinking in my everyday life for doing my assignments and organizing data. I have used decomposition method.
ReplyDeleteA2: For me, Mentor should be someone who is willing to support me and advise me when I in need of it or when I’m doing wrong. He/she should be able to understand me and help me know my mistakes and strength.
A3: Project-based learning are so successful because by doing project-based learning people can learn the things more clearly and effectively. I have used this type of learning before an I think this works for me as I can learn and remember things more properly by this method.
A4: The memorable part of Steve Jobs presentation is how he engaged his audience throughout the presentation. The strength of presenting to the audience should be able to spoke and present your thinking in front of people in the way that audience will understand.

ReplyDeleteLet’s start by describing what AI is. It’s a broad branch of computer science. Its goal is to create systems that can function intelligently and independently. An example of that is commercial Flights Using an AI Autopilot, Robocalls, Robo-readers and so on. I believe the next advancements in AI would something like Military robots like just it has been showing in many movies or it would be used in the medical field to save more lives.
A2.-
One of my biggest concern about the technology itself, it’s that it makes some individuals very lazy because we rely on a learning-machine or program to do everything for us. Example of that is: self- driving car like Tesla, Uber. I also have a concern about privacy and safety issues. Like Amazon Alexa, simply known as Alexa, who’s always listening. No one really knows what kind of information is really being kept in the vault.

ReplyDeleteThe Word "troubleshooting" already emphasizes there might be a problem that needs extra care or is to be solved. Troubleshooting, it's something we all do in our everyday lives without even realizing it. The video illustrates step-by-step how to perform such action if ever been faced with technical difficulties with our computer.
The only thing I would add is that sometimes it's not a hardware or software issue, but a user issue.
(A.-2)
From past experiences, my desktop monitor went " BLACK" on me a couple of times. The first thing that came to mind was like " Oh, no...! I have to spend more money! However, I took a step back. I checked all the wires connected to the back of the PC & did a Hard Reboot, and that ended up solving the problem.
(A.-3) In my view, this IT Interview video only applies to individuals who already have a great deal of experience in the IT field. With that being said, I wouldn't know how to begin a newly assigned IT project unless I am fully trained on it. In another, I wouldn't able to back up my great interview even I have learned all the proper answers from not having any experience.
(A.-4) Google Data Studio it's essentially a free tool from Google that allows you to create branded reports with data visualizations to share with your clients thru social media and other entity.
ReplyDeleteA1. Digital resumes are a very easy way to apply for a job and to communicate with employers. Online resume distribution services make it easy to create resumes online and issue them to employers. Specific job search sites, such as Workopolis.com and Monster.ca, allow you to build and post your resume in a searchable format.
ReplyDeleteEmployers benefit from the advantages online resumes offer, including having access to a host of possible applicants based on specific search criteria and limiting their search to applications that possess the exact skills and qualities they are looking most important part of your resume is your opening statement. There are basically three options for opening your resume: an objective statement, a summary statement or an offering statement.
A2. This time most electronic devices make things easy .Computers can be used to help us solve problems. However, before a problem can be tackled, the problem itself and the ways in which it could be solved need to be understood.Computational thinking involves taking that complex problem and breaking it down into a series of small, more manageable problems (decomposition). Each of these smaller problems can then be looked at individually, considering how similar problems have been solved previously (pattern recognition) and focusing only on the important details, while ignoring irrelevant information (abstraction). Next, simple steps or rules to solve each of the smaller problems can be designed. elements to Computational Thinking is abstract model of a system that has been taken from or based on (abstracted) also, value – if a parameter is passed by value, a copy of the data is used within the subprogram, which is discarded when the subprogram exits, and reference if a parameter is passed by reference, the location or in memory.
A3. Mentors are an important part of personal and professional development. They are guides through times when people need someone that is able to point them in the right direction. Good mentors are prepared.
Approachability, availability, and the ability to listen.
Honesty with diplomacy
Inquisitiveness.
Objectivity and fairness
Compassion and genuineness.Good mentors are passionate about their yearning to help others and receive their rewards not in the form of materialistic items or money, but in seeing the people they have helped become successful.mentor will create a strategy that fits your needs, talents, skills, and desires and push you towards a better you—not towards a clone of themselves..
A4. .I am an Active Learning Methods online course and I watch videos are just what I needed!!! Thanks. PS: I'd love one on Team-Based Learning . Project-based learning is an instructional approach designed to give students the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills through engaging projects set around challenges and problems they may face in the real world.Definitely the way I've been going at it for past 2-3 years. Something that can hinder this kind of learning is perfectionism. That what held me back. I personally wanted to know everything about the tools before I started working and that took way too long and more often than not made me abandone the project entirely before I even started.
